Pronounced 'skipper-key', the name comes from the Flemish for 'little boatman'. The Schipperke hails from Belgium. He was used as a barge dog as a ratter and was also a carriage dog. The Skip is 12 to 18 pounds. He is like a Belgian Sheepdog in miniature; is playful, loyal, devoted and hardy.
