Old English SheepdogA doublecoated, rugged, active dog usually standing from 22 inches for a small female to 26 inches for a large male. They were originally bred to be a drover's dog, taking stock from the farms over long distances to market but also were used as herding dogs on farms. Bred for work, they do require a reasonable amount of exercise. They usually make good family dogs and like to be with people, typically following family members from room to room when inside. Their coat is beautiful when properly cared for but can be their downfall when neglected. Many companions are kept in an easier to care for clipped coat.
